Yacht Controller
What is Yacht Controller?
Yacht Controller is a wireless remote control system that lets you manoeuvre your yacht's engines, bow thruster, stern thruster, and anchor windlass from anywhere on deck — without anyone at the helm. Whether you are docking single-handed in a crowded BVI marina, picking up a mooring buoy, or anchoring in a tight anchorage, Yacht Controller puts full control in the palm of your hand.
Cay Electronics is an authorised Yacht Controller dealer serving Tortola, the British Virgin Islands, and the wider Caribbean. We supply, install, and commission all Yacht Controller models from our base at Nanny Cay Marina.
How does it work?
The system has two components: a waterproof handheld transmitter and a receiver unit installed aboard your vessel. Switch on the receiver, power up the handheld, and you have full wireless control of your boat's propulsion and manoeuvring systems. The transmitter is waterproof, floats if dropped overboard, and its silicone membrane switches are built to withstand the rigours of saltwater use.
The latest generation Yacht Controller systems feature a 64-bit quad-core processor, dual-band frequency scrolling across more than 100 channels, and a built-in radio spectrum analyser that constantly checks for wireless interference — giving you the redundancy and reliability you need when it matters most.
Which Yacht Controller model is right for my boat?
Yacht Controller offers a range of models to suit different vessel sizes and requirements:
- Dual Band / Dual Band Plus — ideal for yachts up to approximately 45 feet, with adjustable throttle control and multiple speed settings for different wind and tidal conditions.
- Optimo / Maximo — the Next Gen series for vessels up to 26 metres, featuring dynamic positioning assistance, two-way communication, and Wi-Fi integration with Garmin, Raymarine, and Furuno chart plotters.
- Supremo — designed for vessels over 26 metres, with full computer-assisted manoeuvring and advanced dynamic positioning.
All models are compatible with electric, hydraulic, and mechanical shifting engines, making Yacht Controller suitable for virtually any vessel. The system can also be expanded to control swim platforms, shore power cables, cranes, davits, and passerelles — functioning as a universal remote for your entire vessel.
Why have it installed by Cay Electronics?
Yacht Controller must be properly installed and calibrated to your specific vessel for safe, reliable operation. Our certified technicians at Cay Electronics have the experience to integrate the system correctly with your existing engine controls, thruster systems, and chart plotter displays. We also handle the commissioning and sea trial to ensure everything performs exactly as it should before you leave the dock.

Common questions
What does Yacht Controller actually control on my boat?
Yacht Controller can wirelessly operate your engines (in and out of gear, with throttle control), bow thruster, stern thruster, and anchor windlass. Depending on the model and your vessel's configuration, it can also control swim platforms, shore power cables, cranes, davits, and passerelles — essentially acting as a universal wireless remote for your entire boat.
Is Yacht Controller compatible with my engines?
Yes. Yacht Controller is compatible with electric, hydraulic, and mechanical shifting engines, making it suitable for virtually any vessel on the water. Contact us with your engine make and model and we will confirm compatibility before installation.
How far away from my boat can I use the controller?
Range varies by model. Entry-level systems provide ample coverage for moving around the deck, bow, and stern during docking. The advanced Maximo and Supremo systems offer a range of up to 250 feet (76 metres) or more — enough to step onto the dock and assist with lines while still controlling the vessel.
Can Yacht Controller integrate with my chart plotter?
Yes. The Next Gen Optimo, Maximo, and Supremo systems include Wi-Fi connectivity that allows the receiver's interface to be displayed on compatible Garmin, Raymarine, and Furuno chart plotters. This lets you monitor and adjust system settings directly from your MFD touchscreen. Remote access via VPN is also available for real-time technical support and software updates.
What is dynamic positioning and do I need it?
Dynamic positioning (DPS) is a feature on the Optimo, Maximo, and Supremo models that uses GPS to automatically hold your vessel's position against wind, current, and tide — without anchoring. It is particularly useful when collecting moorings, waiting at a fuel dock, or holding position for diving and fishing. It is not essential for all users but is a significant safety and convenience upgrade for larger vessels or those sailing short-handed.
